Jim Blanchard, Architectural Archival Artist, is a native son of Lafourche Parish and was raised amid the region's aging plantations and vernacular 19th-century architecture. Blanchard shifted his focus to the River Parishes, working on the restoration and history of Houmas House Plantation and on the restoration of both Ashland and Bocage Plantations. Blanchard designed and oversaw the construction of the Great River Road Museum at Houmas and curated and created the exhibits for the history of River Road in the Museum. His works appear in The Bicentennial History of Art in Louisiana (The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities) and numerous other publications. Private and public collections, museums, and universities house Jim’s archival drawings, including The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, The Historic New Orleans Collection, Louisiana State University, Tulane University, and other notable institutions. He is the author of The Sugar Palace, Houmas House Plantation & Gardens. Jim Blanchard, with his architectural, historical, and research background, is the designer of the Great River Road Museum at Houmas House Estate and Gardens. Blanchard authored “Magnificent Obsessions: New Orleans Buildings and Residences, 300 Years of New Orleans Architecture. In 2018, Blanchard’s paintings were exhibited in “A Precise Vision: The Architectural Archival Watercolors of Jim Blanchard” at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans.
